The Armenian Relief Society, an NGO in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, in collaboration with the Armenian Legal Center, will host an event on the margins of the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council focused on refugee justice and durable, rights-based solutions for the forcibly displaced Armenian population of Artsakh. The event, titled “Refugee Justice for the Armenian Women and Children of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh): Advancing the Right to Return through Human Rights, Property Restitution, Cultural Heritage Preservation, and Sustainable Recovery,” will take place on September 24, 2026, at 17:00 at the Palais des Nations, Salle XI, Geneva, Switzerland. The discussion will examine the continuing humanitarian and human rights consequences of the displacement of more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh in 2023, with particular attention to the experiences and rights of women and children. Key areas of discussion will include the protection of displaced persons and access to housing, healthcare, education, employment and social services; the principles of voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return; housing, land and property restitution; protection of cultural and religious heritage; and accountability, transitional justice and guarantees of non-recurrence. The event will bring together representatives of Member States, international legal and human rights experts, humanitarian practitioners, civil society representatives and other stakeholders to encourage dialogue and advance practical, rights-based approaches to justice, recovery and durable solutions. The event will take place at 5 p.m. local time on Septemeber 24 at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva.
